Nature Foundation helps emerging farmers Saturday 22nd of July 2006 The Namibia Nature Foundation (NNF) is working with the Ministry of Lands, Resettlement and Rehabilitation on a programme to support a Namibia-led approach to address and strengthen the sustainable land reform process. NNF is facilitating, with MLRR, collaborative efforts by resettled farmers within five pilot sites to develop a common vision, management objectives and plans and capacity needs to allow them to become self-reliant and to sustainably optimize their livelihoods. It is facilitating the building of partnerships between resettled farmers, GRN departments and other support organisations to help implement the project objectives, the NNF said in its latest newsletter which appeared this week. One component of this project is thus capacity-building for group farmers on five pilot resettlement farms, which are Queen Sofia in Kunene region, New Sommerau in Otjozondjupa, Mangetti Dune in Otjozondjupa, Tsintsabis in Oshikoto, and Bravo in Okavango. Training so far undertaken or still ongoing includes basic rural socio-economics, financial management and bookkeeping, livestock management and crop production, skills’ development for group resettlement youth in bricklaying, carpentry, welding and joinery, and project management training. |
