eptember when it sank in the walvis Bay harbour after colliding with a Soutrh African dredger. After it was repaired, the Umfolozi was named Michael S. and was sold to a Greek ship owner, Alexander Saleh. Last weekend crew members boarded the confiscated ship, dumped the security guards and their belongings over board and stole the ship from the harbour. It is alleged that Saleh at the same time boarded a plane at Hosea Kutako airport. In the meantime the Port Captain of Walvis Bay, Vladimir Gusev, has been suspended. The suspension is linked to the missing container ship, which late on Thursday was still not foiund and apparently made way to Angola. Questions arose of how a suspended ship could obtain enough petrol/ diesel for such a long trip. The Michael S (Umfolozi) was detained in the harbour in June after the South African Ports Authority won a High Court order against Seagate Shipping for damage done to the South African dredger. Since Monday, Namibian Police and Defence Force members have been conducting aerial searches without any results. Angolan authorities and Interpol are said to have joined the search.
