Saturday 22nd of July 2006 The petrol price in Namibia will hit the N$6 mark next Monday – the first time in the history of the country – when fuel prices increase once again this year. Prices will then be N$6.11 for unleaded petrol in Windhoek, N$6.09 for lead-replacement petrol and N$6.18 for diesel. In South Africa unleaded petrol already costs R6.73 and diesel R6.32. The unrest in the Middle East, increased crude oil prices and the weak Namibian Dollar against the US currency were reasons given by the Ministry of Mines and Energy for the fuel price hike. Minister Erkki Nghimtina however warned that Namibians would have to dig deeper into their pockets when crude oil should become even more expensive on the international markets. |
