The world-famous boxing brothers Wladimir and Vitali Klitschko were on a visit to Namibia this week in their social capacity as UNESCO Champions for Sport and Ambassadors for Education for Children in Need. They visited villages of San (Bushmen) people in the Caprivi Region with UNESCO Namibia country officials to assess the educational needs of these most marginalized people in the country. The San or Bushmen are the indigenous people of Namibia, but are troubled by poverty, unemployment and lack of education. On 9 August was the UN Indigenous Peoples’ Day. UNESCO is setting up early childhood development centres in areas where the San are living. Engaging the Klitschko brothers for the trip to Namibia will help attract donations and greater visibility of the projects for San children. The German company Henkel, situated in Düsseldorf, a producer of detergents and hair care products will get involved in a fundraising project for the San with the Klitschko brothers. On the photo Mrs Katharina Wolf, representative of the Henkel Group poses with Vitali (L) and Wladimir Klitschko (R) on Tuesday, in Windhoek, their last stop of their five-day trip to Namibia, after a presentation on the San children project.
