Despite Government’s rejections of their demands the Committee on the Welfare of War Veterans under Alex Kamwi remains steadfast. They will hold a large meeting on 19 August at the Greenwell Matongo Centre in Katutura, Kamwi told reporters n Wednesday. On 4 September, they would organise masse demonstrations countrywide. The veterans want N$ 500,000 as a lump sum or N$ 31,000 for each year in exile (23 years). They want to work until aged 79, to obtain better pensions. They demand fishing and mining shares. President Pohamba said last Friday the government could not adhere to their demands as it would cost N$ 6 billion or 40% of the annual budget and this would lead to economic collapse. Kamwi on Wednesday claimed that in 1989 an UN official told the combatants Namibians in Luanda, Angola that they would receive US$80,000, "the same like all exiled civilians returning back to Namibia".

Committee member Ruusa Malulu told reporters that the veterans already approached President n Nujoma in 2004 and that he invited her for a meeting in February 2005, requesting to put their demands in writing to the SWAPO deputy secretary general, John Pandeni. This was done on 27 February 2005, but they never received a reply. A letter was then sent to the SWAPO head office in December 2005, asking Nujoma for a meeting, but they also did not get a reply.
