Celebrations as Cohen Fistball Club turns 40 Saturday 19th of August 2006 On Saturday, 12th August 2006, the Cohen Fistball Club held its official celebrations for the 40th anniversary of the club. The club was founded in 1966 and named after Jack Cohen, who was one of the founding members as well as a big contributer to the establishment of the club. During the past 40 years the club has experienced turbulent times, both economically and athletic. In 1972 the club was very proud of the nomination of Mr Hubsi von Scheliha, a long-time member of the club, to the Namibian National Team, who repre-sented the country at the world championships in Schweinfurt. Over the years the members erected a club house on the current premises and eventually bought the erf from the City of Windhoek. This was only possible through dedication by the members and the goodwill of friends to the sport. In 1994 the club experienced an athletic highlight by becoming the overall winner of the Namibia Fistball League in all three League categories. 1997 the club registered the most number of members and was able to register 8 teams in the Namibia Fistball League. During this year the youth development really came alive with a total of 30 active players under the age of 21. Members of the club are being nomina-ted for the mens, ladies and youth National Teams respectively on a regular basis. Currently the club is very proud to announce that the youth development was increased and that currently there is a team entered in the Namibia Fistball Youth League and three teams registered in the Namibia Fistball Mini League - all of which are showing great enthusiasm and results. To celecbrate the anniversary of the club the Powerade / Pennypinchers tournament was sheduled, inviting all the Namibian Fistball Clubs to parti-cipate. The day was a huge success with eight teams registered under the adult/junior group and four teams registered under the mini-under 14 group. During the day it was gratifying to greet a lot of visitors on the club premises, including founding members, adults and sponsors, all of which enjoyed the games of the tournament. The Mini teams were congratulated for their efforts and rewarded with prizes after the games. The winner was CFC A, with SKW in second place and CFC B and CFC C in third and fourth place respectively. Thereafter the finals of the adult/junior teams took place between SKW 1 and SKW 2. The day was concluded with a celebration and the prize giving of the adult/junior teams. SKW 1 took the honours as the winner of the tournament and SKW 2 took second place. |
