Ramblers

OLD BOYS

The Germany tour ended on 28 May 2003 and most participants have returned home safely in the meantime. The game against Bergedorf in Hamburg ended in a one all draw. Harald Preschel put Ramblers in the lead with a well taken shot from 25 metres. Thereafter we travelled to Berlin where we visited the Bundesliga Club Hertha BSC and had the chance to meet some Hertha players and the manager, Mr Dieter Hoeneß. In a friendly against Hertha Amateurs II on Friday night we lost 1:4. Hertha lead 3:0 after fifteen minutes, but then the Ramblers team realised that they were playing "the game of their life" and started playing good combinational football. Martin Wilke got the consolation goal in the second half. The game was attended by the Namibian ambassador in Germany, Mr Hanno Rumpf and his staff. On Saturday we went to castle Sans Soucci in Potsdam and attended the Bundesliga game Hertha BSC vs Kaiserslautern.

After a long Saturday night we travelled to Dresden on Sunday where we had a good look at this beautiful and historical city. Monday morning we headed for our final destination, Unterdarching near München, where we were warmly received by well known Eckhard Nold, a big friend of Namibia. After some shopping in München on Tuesday we played our sixth game in twelve days and this proved to be just too much. Unterdarching beat us 6:1 with four Ramblers players picking up injuries. Harald Hecht scored the consolation goal for Ramblers in the second half. Rumour has it that the after party was, however, clearly won by Ramblers! On this note the wonderful Germany tour of fourteen days came to an end and we sincerely hope that our hosts in Germany will reciprocate with visits to Namibia in future in order to give us the opportunity to return some of the wonderful hospitality that we received abroad.

All tour members would also like to thank Ralf "Vormann" Behrens for arranging this super tour.
