Sunday 17th of September 2006 Walvis Bay to get municipal police The Walvis Bay Town Council resolved that the establishment of a municipal police force should be reinvestigated. Being committed to the community and its needs, the Council wishes to obtain the opinions of the people of Walvis Bay in this regard. The expression of views by the public is crucial, seeing that the considerable costs of establishing and sustaining a municipal police force will have to be borne by the community of Walvis Bay. A series of civic meetings will be scheduled soon to gauge public views and ideas, and to determine the level of support for the establishment of a municipal police force. Councillors and officials would therefore welcome the opportunity to hear residents express themselves on the topic at these gatherings, which will consist of both cluster and public meetings. The dates for these meetings will be announced in the local media. For more information in the meantime, the public can contact Piet van Niekerk at 064-2013264, or e-mail to pvanniekerk@walvisbaycc.org.na.
