Sunday 17th of September 2006 ak. After its eight week break, the National Assembly resumed work on Tuesday, 12 September 2006. Of particular interest in this session were the Financial Intelligence Bill, a bill against money laundering, the local Authorities Fire Brigade Service Bill, a bill for improving fire-department services and the Abuse of Drugs Bill. The Financial Intelligence Bill was also presented at the beginning of the year by Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila, Minister of Finance, but was withdrawn due to technical defects. Other bills, such as a replacement of the Electricity Act of 2000, a bill on the protection of the environment or a bill on gambling will also be discussed. Among others, the International Convention against Doping in Sport and the International Convention on Oil Pollution Preparedness, Response and Co-operation, will also be a topic under discussion at this session. The first meeting on Tuesday was characterised by numerous questions asked by the opposition parties, concerning among others the compensation for the SWAPO veterans, rumours about sales of military vehicles, produced in the Ministry’s Windhoeker Maschinenfabrik, to Iraq and the number of armoured "Werwolf" vehicles which have been exported. Also why no pictures of the Namibian President Hifikepunye Pohamba are not displayed all of the ministries.
