Finnish support for Women’s Solidarity

ak. Women’s Solidarity Namibia received N$393 000 for its campaign against gender-based violence. This donation was received from the Embassy of Finland through its Fund for Local Co-operation. The aim of the campaign is to train women at grassroots level and thus enabling them to help and assist each other in a mutual way. Alone this month 17 crime victims searched for assistance from the Women’s Solidarity Namibia.

Settlement in property valuation lawsuit

ak. After Heidemarie Lacheiner-Kuhn contested the offer received from government for their farms, as this was less than half of the N$9,56 million an independent estimator calculated for the property including the running costs, both parties now arrived at a final settlement figure of N$8 million. The two farms, Okorusu and Marburg had been in the family‘s possession for 90 years and were chosen for expropriation in August last year. 

Namibia tackled on economic report

ak. On the World Economic Forum Global Competitiveness Report 2006, which was released yesterday, Namibia slipped from rank 79 of last year to rank 84. The highest ranked African country is Tunisia at rank 30 followed by South Africa, rank 45 and Mauritius, rank 55.
