Black Belt Grading for Goju Ryu Karate

The annual Black Belt Grading of Goju Ryu Karate was held on 16 September 2006 in Windhoek. 6 Students tested for Shodan (1st Dan Black Belt) and 1 tested for Sandan (3rd Dan Black Belt ) in front of a panel headed by Sensei Bakkies Laubscher, 8th Dan Black Belt, Chief Instructor of the I.O.G.K.F for Africa. Sensei Bakkies Laubscher expressed his satisfaction with the standard of the Namibian Black Belts that compares well with any grading that he performs around the world.

The students had to attend a 8 hour Gasshuku (training camp/seminar) before the grading, they had to pass a 2 hour physical test and also had to pass a written examination to test their knowledge about the history as well as technical aspects of Goju Ryu Karate.

Fritz Venzke – Shodan

Alistair Dieterich – Shodan

Stefan van der Merwe – Shodan

Roché Louw – Shodan (Walvis Bay)

Nico Maritz – Sandan (3rd Dan) (Walvis Bay)
