From 23 May until 11 July 2005, Josephine Kalombo worked at the Robert Mugabe Clinic without being qualified as a nurse but also without payment. On Friday, 22 September 2006 Josephine Kalombo was sentenced to a one-year prison term, which was fully suspended for four years. With effect from 31 December 2006 Frances Ferreira, Director of the Namibian College of Open Learning (Namcol) resigned from office. The Founding Director of Namcol plans to take up other challenges in the future. Highly acclaimed artist commits suicide ak. According to a police report, the well-known Namibian artist, Armin Sander committed suicide on Saturday, 24 September 2006 in Omaruru. Seemingly Sander was found hanging in a bathroom at the company Tikolshe Roots Carving by a secretary and the owner of the company. Armin Sander, who was well known for his animal sketches, had been a resident of Omaruru for a couple of years. Cuban health professionals arrive ak. Three Doctors, two pharmacists and 15 nurses arrived from Cuba and thus they will hopefully reduce the lack of medical staff in Namibia, which is alarming in some rural areas. At the moment 170 Cuban health professionals were still working in the country. The Cuban health programme, which was established in 1998 by the Cuban government and which offers humanitarian aid to the people of Latin America, was extended to Namibia five years ago. |
