Bank of Namibia: Stolen Money

The theft of N$ 200 000 by two employees of the Bank of Namibia last year resulted in the central; bank to install security equipment to the tune of N$ 620 000. On top of that, the stolen amount could not be recovered and was written off. Tabling the annual report for 2002of the BoN in the National Assembly on Wednesday, the new finance minister Mrs Saraa Kuugongelwa-Amathila included a memorandum, which was written to her last month by the BoN governor, Mr Tom Alweendo. He explained that several staff members had been demoted because of the theft of the bank notes in a period of 11 minutes from a vault.
