Seminar on Holistic Management Thursday 21st of December 2006 Following the information talk on 21 November 2006 in Katutura about the back Learning Program for Part-time and Full-time Farmers, many people were interested to attend a learning session that would give a more comprehensive introduction to Holistic Management and how it can be applied for profitable farming and other enterprises, in your household and personal life, and in land restoration. It was therefore decided to hold an introductory weekend seminar near Windhoek, so that participants did not have to take leave from thei workplace and so that they did not have to travel far. This seminar will offer you the background to Holistic Management and how it can help to * make livestock farming profitable; * improve the land, to keep your livestock, wildlife and all other forms of life healthy; * figure out how best to combine professional work in town with part time farming (in the „communal areas“or on your own farm); * get satisfaction and the best possible quality of life for the whole family; * get the greatest return possible from investing your hard-earned money into livestock; * investigate different enterprises; * improve the cooperation between members in your family or business; * find creative solutions to special challenges; *AND reduce your risks while doing all the above. You will learn the first practical steps of sound decision making and management. It will also give us the opportunity to discuss your specific interests, needs and constraints for planning further learning sessions. The venue will be Penduka, Goreangab Dam, Katutura (follow Independence Avenue, cross Otjimuise Road into Goerangab. The road is then called Aveline Street and will have signs leading you to Penduka) The seminar starts with registration and personal introductions on Friday 2 February at 18:00 until 21:00. There will be something to eat (included in the course fee) and a cash bar to buy drinks of your choice. We proceed with the program on Saturday, 3 February, starting at 8:30 until 17:30 and Sunday from 8:30 to 17:00. Morning and afternoon refreshments and a light lunch and a set of notes and worksheets per team are included. We will communicate in English, but questions can also be answered in Afrikaans. The cost of this introductory seminar is N$ 1040 for a single person and N$ 1220 for a pair. A pair are any two people who belong to the same household or who manage a business or organization together. We strongly encourage that you attend together with your partner from the first time as it will make your communications within in the family or business so much easier when you both hear the information first hand. Should you want to overnight at Penduka, please reserve a room or space in the dormitories by phoning Penduka personally at 061 - 257210. Please mention that you are attending the above mentioned seminar. The cost, excluding breakfast is N$50 in the dormitories, N$ 135 for one and N$ 185 for two in the bungalows (own bathroom). We will also discuss how you can obtain a reduction of fees for future learning sessions. A Holistic Management Biological Planning Learning Session is planned for 21 to 25 February (including Grazing Planning, Infrastructure Development Planning and Biological Monitoring). To participate in this learning session it is a pre-requisite to have attended at least the introductory seminar. There will be another Biological Planning learning session offered later-on in the year, as well as Financial Planning, Monitoring and Record keeping. During the introductory seminar you will be informed about an exciting schedule of exchange visits and conferences with regional and international speakers and practical demonstrations of various topics relating to livestock farming and Holistic Management in general. The closing date for registrations for the Introductory Seminar to Holistic Management is 15 January 2007. Please fill in the entry form and return it with proof of a deposit of N$ 300. The balance of the fee is due on 2 February 2007, when you register in person. A minimum of 12 parties (single or pairs) is required to let the seminar take place, so do encourage your friends and colleagues to attend as well. |
