SANLAM NBC MUSIC AWARD PRIZE-GIVING

The most celebrated musical and social event on the entertainment calendar of Namibia took place on the 1st December. It was a night not to be forgotten.  A night in which many artists scooped and walked away with different awards totaling not less than 30. For the first time traditional music was featured in the awards.  The crowd well dressed for the occasion, and cheering their preferred artist turned up in numbers and filled the 1500 seats available.
Performances ranged from new unknown artist to well known and established artists such as Tate Buti, Jossy Joss, Stella and Raphael and Pele.  New artist such as Kamasutra, The Verdicts, Mervin, Hot Spots and Kid Nana franked by Gal Leevel were introduced and given a platform to perform to aid as a catalyst in jump-starting their careers. “We tried to incorporate different genres, race, geographical origins and different taste of the audience.” Mulele Simataa, Senior Marketing Manager at Sanlam Namibia proudly stated.
A total of N$ 170 000 was given in cash and non-cash prizes.  Of this amount about N$80 000 was for cash prizes for the winners in the different categories.  Other non-cash prizes includes a FNCC sponsorship for the winner to attend the prestigious and biggest Musical concert and different music videos to be done for certain winning artist in some categories.  The prizes are also inclusive of unit trust investments to be given for certain categories.
“Our artists have indeed done us proud. The Music Award is still young but fast growing, and we hope it will contribute tremendously to the growth of the whole Music industry in Namibia”concluded Simataa.
