Better salaries for farm workers Thursday 21st of December 2006 The Agricultural Employers’ Association (AEA) launched their bi-annual wage survey report last week. back The report concluded the following: The total remuneration package of permanent employees on commercial farms during the report period amount to N$1686 per month. This figure includes cash, housing, livestock and free transport, but excludes items such as fire wood, electricity, water, SSC and pension fund contributions that are regarded as a benefit for the employee and a cost to the employer. The remuneration packages of the above employees have increased with 10% since the 2004 AEA wage survey report when the figure was N$1453. The total remuneration paid to permanent employees has increased with 100% over the last 10 years. It was found once again that the remuneration system of cash and rations (farm produced foods) is still used largely by employers. § In 2006 a total of 66% employers indicated that their employees have access to electricity in their homes. § The dependants in this survey add up to 3.32 per permanent employee. This figure dropped compared to 4.55 dependants per employee in the 2004 wage survey. § A total of 94% employers indicated that their employees receive a bonus and 98% employers indicated their employees receive salary increases. The occurrence of HIV/AIDS was investigated in the 2006 wage survey and 8.57% employers indicated that they were aware of HIV/AIDS cases amongst their work force. The report will be sent to all Farmers Associations and Regional Agricltural Unions and can also be sold at the office. |
