The Namibian Chess Foundation under the auspices of the Namibian Chess Federation wishes to announce the first leg of the Standard Bank Junior Chess Tournament 2003.

Time: 07H15 for 08H15 until 12H00 (all players to be seated at 08H00)

.Maximum number of participant; 800.

For every 50 scholars from your school at least one teacher should be present.

Teachers’ main function will be to ensure overall order amongst the scholars.

Schools must please contact us by latest 24 June to inform us of the number of players who will take part. (We would be in the position to cater for more than 800 players, but have to know the total number in advance.)

As far as possible players from different schools will play at random against each other.

Scholars must wear their school uniform to ensure easy line up against other schools. Pairing for every round will be at random.

A team of experts will evaluate unfinished games at the end of the allocated time for each round.

Players who have been knocked out may carry on playing friendly games against opponents of other schools in order to gain experience.

Round 1. One hour is allocated for round one. Three games are played against the same opponent. The player who first achieves two points qualifies for the second round. This will eliminate from 800 to 400

As from Round 2; 30 minutes are allocated for a round and only one game will be played. In each of these Rounds only the winner will go through to the next round.

If the result for a Round is a draw, a toss will decide who will go through to the next round.

Round 2. This will eliminate from 400 to 200.

Round 3. This will eliminate from 200 to 100.

Round 4. This will eliminate from 100 to 50.
