The 2007 Fistball season kicked off this weekend with the Season openings tournament in Swakopmund. The tournament is always an important indicator to coaches and teams, to see how they pre-season  preparation went and what still has to be done, before the leagues kicks off in 4 weeks.
In the first league, SKW 1 meant business from the first game onwards, and with all National squad players  present, they were impressive did not loose a game during the preliminary rounds and qualified directly  for the final. Cohen 1 and Swakop 1 had to play a semi-final game, and a bit surprising did the young Cohen team won against the local boys. The final was won by SKW, but not as impressive or convincingly, with lots of unforced errors and easy squandered points. Cohen really put up a stern fight and determination
and with a bit more consistency, they were close to causing an upset. Final score: 29: 26 to SKW.
In the second league, the Swakop 2 were favorites, as they fielded all the experienced players and went unbeaten into the finals. It was for the developments from Cohen, DTS and SKW to battle it out for the final.
SKW 2 won their semi-final against DTS and had to play Swakop. The final started as expected, Swakop showing all the skills and experience, and changed at halftime with a 5 point lead. But with the wind in their backs, SKW suddenly got the upper hand and showed some real  good Fistball to turn the game around to win with 7 points and the first cup for these youngsters.
The National league will kick-off on 17th March in Windhoek.
