Popular Namibian percussion and a cappella group, Ongoma, will once again stir your   blood with the first Drumming Happening of this year on Friday 9 March at the Iitumba Boma.
After hosting weekly drumming circles for the general public throughout 2006 at the Old Breweries, the group decided to shift the venue this year to Trust Co’s Iitumba Bush Boma on the out-skirts of Windhoek, due to its scenic bush setting and rustic African ambience. Since February this year Ongoma have become a welcome sight and sound at this popular venue, entertaining patrons with their spirited African repertoire during the Friday evening sundowner sessions.
Their interactive drumming circles gained wide popularity from tourists and locals alike last year, and following the over whelming request for interactive participatory drumming circles from fans and regulars the group decided to combine their Friday evening sundowner performances at Iitumba with a monthly Drumming Happening afterwards at the boma. The event is open to anybody keen to lay their hands on one of the many drums supplied by the group and simply join in with the steady beats beaten out by the experienced Ongoma drummers.
The event will kick off at the Boma a few hundred metres from Iitumba’s main restaurant at 20h00 and drums are available for a mere N$30.00 for the evening. Iitumba is situated on the Western Bypass behind the Windhoek Country Club, where a sign posted gravel road takes you some 5 kilometres through the bush to the venue.
