Thursday 19th of June 2003 The Meat Corporation of Namibia made a net profit if N$ 45,5 mln after taxation and other deductions, N$ 20,5 million lower than last year. At its AGM the members also discussed to change Meatco into a co-operative, a long process, according to CEO Philip Stofberg. About 39% of sales went to EU markets, providing 62% of income from beef cuts. Norway again was the main importer. Meatco managed to utilise 78% of the annual EU quota. Exports to Angola increased by 181.2% translating into 432 tonnes of beef exported in 2002 compared to 154t in 2001. Cattle slaughtered at the Katima Mulilo and Oshakati abattoirs increased from 17 086 in 2001 to 23 724 last year. Despite that increase the throughput at Oshakati abattoir was still below 50%. |
