Friday 20th of June 2003 On 7 June 2003, the Tour and Safari Association of Namibia (TASA) held its annual general meeting at the Nampower Convention Centre. The event was well attended by members of the association, who discussed a variety of issues related to their sector of the tourism industry. TASA approved the concept, development and budget of the proposed Tourism Awareness Campaign, an ambitious project that hopes to gain support not only from the public and private tourism sectors, but from all industry, on a national level, that benefits from foreign visitors coming to Namibia. The TASA magazine, "Destination Namibia" had been very well received both nationally and internationally after its launch two months ago and was considered to have been, to date, a huge success. Destination Namibia includes various articles about popular sites in Namibia as well as a superb gallery of award winning photos. Also included are details of the work TASA is doing for the Namibian tourism industry and the high standards that it’s members maintain. Destination Namibia is also designed to be used as a reference guide for travellers and includes information essential for the international visitor. The magazine is available, free of charge, at many outlets in Namibia and abroad and on request from the TASA office. The new TASA national executive council was elected and consists of the following members: Ms Jean Liechti (chairperson), Mr Martin Wiemers (vice chair), Mr Allan Kirby (past chairman) Ms Nathaly Ahrens (treasurer), Mr Mike Godfrey (secretary), Mr Helmut Schäfer, Dave van Smeerdijk, Mr Bruce Hatton, Ms Roswitha Lowe (representative from Coastal Tour Operators Association) and Ms Vanessa Griffiths. |
