Rotary Windhoek

The Windhoek Rotary club recently presented the annual vocation awards
Sergeant Albert Kaverikua of Police Nampol and to Ms Julie Gobbler, a librarian from Gobabis. The aim of this award is to recognize serving members of communities who in their professional life adhere to and practice high ethical standards and exercise service to the members of the general public in their professional capacities.

Sergeant Kaverikua, is a 28 years old police officer from Otjiwarongo.
After completing his grade 12 at Paresis Secondary, he joined the Namibian police in 1995 and started working at the Wanahenda Police station as a crime prevention
officer.

He later became a cell’s supervisor and a member of the Criminal
Investigation Unit. He also completed both a basic & advanced criminal investigation courses and industrial courses. Sergeant Kaverikua is a second year law student at UNISA and is teaching law on a part time basis at the Ondangwa Police Training College and has presented four training courses at the Windhoek Police Training college. In the CIU, he specialized in the investigation of armed robbery and murder cases.

Ms Julie Grobler, the first ever library assistant to receive this award, has been running the Gobabis Community Library for the last 18 years with only a cleaner to help her out during the very busy times. Despite this, she succeeded to build up the membership of the Gobabis Community Library from 142 in 1983 to 1754 in 2002. She has done this through presenting programmes such as story hours for children in the school holidays, organizing classes in needlework and other crafts, mounting regular displays of new books and other interesting items and by ensuring local participation of all the local schools in the library on a regular basis. The nomination of the candidates was done through a selection process, by their own peers and superiors and the Windhoek Rotary Club had no input in the selection programme
