We are all aware that malaria is a major public health problem and a significant impediment to social-economic development. Malaria remains the main killer disease among children and pregnant women in Africa. It is reported that every 30 seconds a child in Africa is killed of malaria particular in our region. In 2000, African Heads of State, from across Africa including, the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) were a party to a landmark commitment and affirmation to significantly reduce the malaria burden. This decision says “at least 60% of those at risk of malaria, particularly pregnant women and children under five years, benefit from the most suitable combination of personal and community protective measures such as insecticide treated nets (long lasting),and house spraying”. In May 2006, African Heads of State, including SADC leadership recommitted themselves to the goals set in the 2000 Declaration and went further to say that the main goal should be malaria elimination.
