Sunday 13th of May 2007 Some accommodation facilities refuse to pay bed levies, the acting CEO of the Namibia Tourism Board (NTB) warned last Friday. Digu //Naobeb claimed that bed levies are declining while occupancy rates increase. For the financial year that ended on 31 March 2007, NTB collected bed levies of N$ 10,3 million; but the estimates revenue in the budget was much higher. Hotels cointributed 31 per cent and lodges 26 per cent of this amount. 12 % came from rest camps and anothee 9 % from self-catering establishments. He said that it had come to the NTB’s attention that some estate agents at Henties Bay, Walvis Bay and Swakopmund rent homes to filmmakers, but these homes are not registered with NTB. Because of financial constraints, NTB wants to scale down on participation in trade fairs. back |
