Politicians and other observers were wondering, why so few participants attended celebrations of Workers Day (1 May), but there were no complaints about the Cassinga Commemorations at the UN Plaza in katutura, which was packed to capacity on 4 May. Some 20 survivors of the Cassinga massacre held a candlelight ceremony. Deputy Prime Minister Libertina Amathila said that soil from the mass grave ain Southern Angola has been collected and brought to Heroes’ Acre in windhoek. She said that Cassinga Day will never be abolished.
