German equipment aid for NDF totals N$21 Mio for 2005-2008 Sunday 13th of May 2007 Within the framework of equipment aid the implementation of an ‘Integrated Logistics System’ (ILS) which was launched in 2003, roll out phase 1 is due to be started in May 2007 after the successful completion of the pilot phase. The aim is to equip 150 pc work stations country-wide with the necessary hard- and software for the running of a logistical system. For this reason 150 Microsoft licences and 50 SAP R/3 licences were purchased initially. The SAP R/3 modules make the handling of all logistical processes such as material control, maintenance procedures and financial matters possible. The setting up of a data base at Leopard’s Valley was necessary for the running of a network within the NDF. Parallel to the implementation of the hard- and software the training of operators was embarked upon after the fitting out of two lecture halls at the military school in Osona. The value of the pilot phase including the hardware, the software and the training totals N$10 Mio. Roll out phase 1 provides for the extension of 75 pc work stations, equipped with the SAP R/3 modules for material control, maintenance procedures and finanacial admini-stration, until end of September 2007. The NDF locations concerned are Leopard’s Valley II, the military school at Okahandja, Oamites, Otjiwarongo, Grootfontein and Walvis Bay. The cost of roll out phase 1 will total around N$2,8 Mio. Roll out phase 2 provides for the setting up of additional 25 work stations in the same manner, to be completed by end 2008. The annual discussions on the continuation of equipment aid to the NDF were held on 2 – 4 April 2007 between the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, Petrus Shivute, on behalf of the Republic of Namibia and the representative of the Federal Ministry of Defence in Bonn, Hans-Hermann Mehrtens. During his visit to Namibia Mr Mehrtens handed over a pc, a monitor and a printer to Army Commander Major General Nambudunga, the acting Commander of the Air Force, Col. Kamanya and the Commanding Officer of the Okahandja Military School, Col. Kakoto, as a symbol for all the equipment destined for the NDF locations concerned. The symbolical handing over of hardware to Commander P.N. Tjandja, Chief of Naval Staff Operations, took place in Walvis Bay on 26 April 2007. The attached photograph shows Mr. Mehrtens during the symbolical handing over of the hardware to Maj.Gen. Nambudunga. |
