Gutenberg Platz prepares for a major spruce up Friday 25th of May 2007 The newly completed Gutenberg Plaza commercial complex in the core of the Windhoek CBD and developed by the United Africa Group is set to commence its second phase costing an additional several million dollars to spruce up the present Gutenberg Platz shopping arcade.Architects Jaco Wasserfall who designed the new five story commercial complex, are busy drawing up plans for the adjacent Gutenberg Platz walkway to give it a face-lift in keeping with the rest of the building. The Gutenberg Platz shopping mall with its old world architectural appeal is now fully integrated with the multi million dollar Gutenberg Plaza development, and according to Brian Rubinstein (CEO United Africa Group), the building needs to keep abreast of modern architectural requirements. “We want to keep the old charm of the Gutenberg Platz, but modernize and freshen up the shopping arcade to attract additional feet and new tenancy to the area,” he said.” The architects have confirmed that renovations and upgrades are planned for some major refurbishments to the remaining shops with fresh paint, landscaping, canopies and trees to mention some adding to the ambience. One of the major attractions will be a newly built restaurant. In addition pedestrian access will be created from the upper two levels of the Municipal parking garage, to improve circulation from Town Square and shorten the link between the two walkways. Work will commences on the refurbishment in June this year, according to architect Jaco Wasserfall, and should be completed by the end of the year well in time for Christmas shopping and new tenancy. The modern Gutenberg Platz office building has already welcomed several International companies as core tenants who have accommodated space to set up their offices. The United Africa Group will also shortly be setting up their head quarters in the office complex to position themselves in the centre of town, whilst keeping their finger on the pulse of the much-anticipated single largest development to be built in the capital. |
