Major Developments In Swakopmund Monday 7th of July 2003 The municipal swimming pool of Swakopmund was sold for 5,04 million Namibia dollars to Mr Quinton Liebenberg. The Swakopmund town council nodded off the deal last Thursday, subject to certain conditions. The new owner will however have to keep the pool accessible to the public at all times. Liebenberg is also the owner of the restaurant in the swimming pool complex. He intends to expand the recreational opportunities for locals and tourists at the pool complex. In another development the town council approved the sale of land adjacent to the Rossmund Golf Course, which intends to develop it into a residential village with 100 erven sized 750 square metres each, a large swimming pool, tennis courts and bowling greens. The investment is envisaged to cost N$ 12 million. The Swakopmund municipality will sell the 74874 hectare plot to the tune of N$ 533 851.62. The Swakopmund waterfront project of N$ 230 million will now also finally come off the ground, with Council approving the sale of 11 hectares of land at Vineta Point for N$ 2.18 million. The basic infrastructure like streets, water, sewer and electricity will be provided by the developers and will cost about N$ 16 million. After completion this infrastructure will be transferred free of charge to the municipality, which will have to maintain it.
