National Fistball Team announced - 5 Newcomers Selected Friday 15th of June 2007 National Coach Harald Fuelle surprised in selecting 5 newcomers to the Senior National Fistball Team, participating at the 12th Fistball World Championships fro men in Germany later this year.Next to veterans Michael Baas (SKW, Spiker), Uwe Traupe (Swakop, Spiker ), Jens Iben ( Cohen, Defense) and Christopf Kubirkse (Swakop, Setter), coach Fuelle selected Olaf Haase (SKW, Defense), Stefan Goldbeck ( Swakop, Spiker ), Christian Knoblauch (Swakop, Defense), Michael Zimny (SKW, Setter) and Tim Fuelle (SKW, Setter) as newcomers to the national team. Most encouraging for the Fistball Asso-ciation is that except Olaf, all other new players went through the national development program and participated at Youth European championships, as well as the Youth World Cup, and that with Tim an 18 year player made the team. The team main ambition is to achieve what the National Ladies team achieved, namely the 5th place at the World Championships. Their campaign kicks off on the 6th August against Japan, and on the same day Namibia will take on host and Favorite Germany. At the 3rd league round played Saturday, SKW made a very strong statement that in both leagues, the title will only be won over their green shirts. In the National ‘A’ league, the much anticipated clash between old rivals Cohen and SKW showed clearly, that when it comes to match and big points, SKW is master of these. Cohen only had a chance in the second set, as SKW dominated from the first serve and won the game in three sets. The matches between Swakop and SKW, with eight National players on court, were the highlight of the day, but also here SKW made clear, that on their home turf, they are no to be beaten and also won the game in three sets. Too many won faults from Swakop made it too easy, and defense and spike form SKW were too strong on this day. With this success, SKW stays 6 points clear with a game in hand, and are on course for another league title. Swakop however managed to beat Cohen and are now only one point behind the Windhoek team. In the National ‘ B ‘ League, it was also SKW’s day, as both teams recorded wins over third place Cohen 3, and are on courses as well to defend this title, SKW 2 is now 12 points clear of their own 3rd team. The 4th round will be played on 7 July at DTS. Michael Baas, main spiker, SKW and National team, with over 50 international caps, as well as three participation at World Championships. |
