Building has commenced at the Protea Hotel Furstenhof, following a site hand over last week by the United Africa Group to New Era Construction who will be responsible for the first phase of some major construction work that has already begun.
The multi-million dollar refurbishment project to position the hotel in keeping with the high standards of the Protea Group, will include increased conference facilities, a new reception entrance, upgraded parking and a fully equipped gym for the hotel guests.
According to Rubinstein (CEO United Africa Group) this is in the interest of making the hotel more customer friendly, as well as keeping abreast with modern hotel requirements.
“We are going to more then double our conferencing facilities and expand on our present one-room conference outlet, to meet our current conference venue demand,” said Rubinstein.
“In addition we are going to re-arrange the drive-in access to the car park area, as well as completely re-locate the reception welcoming entrance to the street side of the hotel.”
He also said that this major re-vamp will include increasing the present restaurant facility, with the addition of a glassed paneled sundowner terrace and cocktail lounge, that can slide open and close to suit weather conditions.
This is designed to become a sundowner paradise for the corporate businessman and popular meeting place for anyone who wants to soak up the charming atmosphere in the hub of the city.
“Construction work will take place around customer occupancy to enable minimum interference and inconvenience to the guests,” added Rubinstein, who said that once these amenities are completed, Protea Hotel Furstenhof would be equipped to accommodate the businessman’s needs as well as corporate traveler and tourist.
Regional Director of Protea Hotels Namibia, Graham Howard said he was excited about the new facilities at PH Furstenhof, especially the new conference venues, as there is a big demand for quality, affordable and easily accessible facilities in Windhoek.
“The new cocktail bar is sure to provide a relaxed atmosphere with a beautiful view of the city,” he added, saying that the refurbishment is expected to be complete by December.
The well-established thirty six-year-old Protea Furstenhof Hotel is a three star establishment, offering 33 rooms, and is perfectly located on the fringe of the CBD, which now stands to become one the most prided hospitality venues in the Capital.

Protea Hotel Furstenhof is currently being refurbished, to expand its conference facilities as well as add on a glass cocktail bar and shift the current reception entrance to the street side of the hotel
