Thursday 10th of July 2003 The Executive Council of the Namibia Agricultural Union (NAU) approved its contribution to land use and land reform in Namibia at a meeting held on 12 June 2003. The document „A Framework for Sustainable Land Use and Land Reform for Namibia" was presented by the NAU to Honourable Minister Pohamba and Honourable Deputy Minister Katali from the Ministry of Lands, Resettlement and Rehabilitation on 23 June 2003. The Honourable Minister and Honourable Deputy Minister are in the process of scrutinising the document and once they are finished, will contact the NAU to arrange a meeting to deliberate further steps. A second document „Wise use of agricultural land to achieve Vision 2030" was also presented to His Excellency, Dr S Nujoma as Chairman of the President‘s Economic Advisory Council. In this document proposals are made how the agricultural sector could contribute to achieve Vision 2030. The theme of the NAU Congress 2003 „Optimal Land use to address poverty" is in line with this document. Resulting from the recent land reform conference held by the NAU and in line with the recommendations made on sustainable land use and land reform in Namibia, an action will be started to assist upcoming commercial farmers with knowledge and skills, similar to the actions taken by the Outjo regional Agricultural Union as well as the Uhlenhorst Farmers Association. |
