Friday 3rd of August 2007 been experienced in the history of Karibib“, raved the visitors. From early morning the atmosphere was electrifying. From 9 o’clock in the morning the stage was set in the big Festival tent. By the afternoon people were standing on the tables, dancing, singing and celebrating until the early hours of Sunday morning. A lot of enthusiasm was shown for the „Create a Logo for Klippenberg“ Competition, with over 40 entries from the whole of Namibia, as well as two from Germany. Consequently, the Klippenberg Arts & Craft Festival now has a professional Logo created by the architect and graphic designer Chris Jankofsky, who was the winner of N$2000.00. The decision was not an easy one for the judges to make, since the designs of Ziggy Marthin from Katutura (2nd place for N$750.00) and Bryony van der Merwe from Omaruru (3rd place of N$500.00) also received high praise. Singers, dancers and performers from all parts of Namibia ensured that there was a spectacular entertainment programme. Visitors, both young and old, wandered from the big tent around the Festival ground filled with art from all parts of Namibia. Works from the students of the Windhoek College of the Arts and the University of Namibia (UNAM) were inter-spersed with traditional handcrafts, sculptures and mirrors decorated with precious stones. In the artists’ tent paintings and books, handpainted postcards and material were exhibited and sold. Exhibitors and visitors were equally thrilled with the atmosphere at this successful event. Trio Feminale from Swakop-mund enchanted visitors with their classical renditions outside on the grass of the Country Club, while the sounds of Hip Hop, Kwaito dancers, Rock- and Pop music could be heard in the big tent, ably moderated by the wellknown singer, Jackson Kaujeua. At the official opening, Karibib’s Mayor and the Councillor of Omaruru, commended the Festival Committee on their professional organization of the event. In previous years, the Festival received fewer and fewer visitors, consequently the main sponsor AngloGold said that if the Klippenberg Festival ended with a negative balance this year, they would no longer sponsor the event. And the organizing committee managed! Over the last three months, Attie Stadler, Lydia Kandetu, Peter Dirks, Jacqui Wilhelm, Konny von Schmettau, Manneckey Khoe-Aob, Emily U. Tjikune, George Dirsuwei, Heidi Thal, Armand Braeutigam and Bellington Mabakeng worked hard to not only provide the public with a spectacular programme but to organize sponsors in an effort to breathe back life into the Festival. „Next year I will definitely be standing on this stage again “, enthused Deon the Diva, who had the audience in ecstasy with his Italian opera performances. „Opera in Karibib – I never thought I would experience something like this“ stated one elderly guest, with tears of delight in his eyes - even the younger generation were amazed and gave Deon a ten minutes standing ovation. With his tremolo from bass to soprano this extraordinary singer with the talent of a world star filled the festival tent and was heard into the last corners in Karibib. A short while later people, especially the young ladies in the audience, got their monies worth when the next star of the evening took to the stage: Gazza! With utter charm and in the best humor Gazza stayed until midnight to sign autographs, while on the stage he presented an award winning, superb Hip Hop show, that would not have been out of place on any stage in the world. Dancing and celebration carried on until the early morning hours in Karibib. Those who were not there really missed something special!
