What happened to the CoD-Cheque? Friday 10th of August 2007 Nora Schimming Chase said, she will keep the cheque safely until the CoD books are verified. The Secretary of the National Assembly meanwhile had this to say: back It has mistakenly been reported in the media that the cheque due for CoD from the National Assembly was wrongly given to Hon. Schimming-Chase, Vice President of CoD. The last written confirmation from the CoD was on 25 August 2005 that Hon. Nora Schimming-Chase and Hon. Kalla Gertze had been authorized to collect and sign cheques for the CoD. In this context, on 8 July 2007, Hon. Schimming-Chase picked up and signed for CoD’s cheque. All political parties in the House are obliged to do the same. Subsequently and belatedly, on the same day, Hon. Ben Ulenga wrote to the Secretary to the National Assembly indicating that Ms Rosa Namises, Mr Kapi or Hon. Ulenga himself, are authorized to collect CoD’s cheques. Unfortunately, Hon. Ulenga’s letter came after the cheque had already been given to Hon. Schimming-Chase. For the misunderstanding that followed, the Office of the Secretary is not responsible. This Press Release thus clarifies the matter and exonerates the Secretary. |
