Under section 54 (4) of the Customs and Excise Act, 1998, (Act No. 20 of 1998), Part 6 of the Export Levy of Schedule No. 1 to the Act has been amended, with effect from the date of publication of this notice (Government Gazette No. 3896, 15 August 2007 / Government Notice No. 146):
that bovine, goat and sheep skins / hides in wet or dry form, whether salted or not, is taxed with a 60% export levy;
that pickled skins of bovine animals as well as those of goats and sheep will be taxed with a 15% export levy from September 2008 onwards.
