German Development Service (DED) as a stakeholder of Okakarara community development supports the regions first trade fair which takes places the upcoming weekend, September 14th to 16th. The fair will be held on the premises of Okakarara Cultural and Tourism Centre, once more linking center of Herero culture with the community’s social and business life.
The local organisers, Okakarara Trade Fair Society, so far attracted about 100 local and regional companies of which most are SMEs , which will all attend the three day event. Textiles and garments, crafts and household products will be showcased as well as a wide variety of regional offered services. Since the regions focus is on agriculture, products like cattle equipment and all kinds of agricultural tools will receive main attention.
One of the highlights of the trade fair doubtlessly is the cattle auction. More than 20 farmers agreed on their participation so far and a total number of 50 livestock will be traded.
As all exhibitors arrive on Thursday 13th they will be given the opportunity  to attend a free preceding training on “Deriving maximum benefits from participating at trade fairs”. The training will be held by SMEs-Compete, a well experienced organiser of trade fairs and DED’s partner in SME promotion.
An attractive entertainment pro-gramme including music and a beauty pageant for “Miss Okakarara Trade Fair” will complete the schedule of the event.
According to Mr Jackson Hindjou, Chairman of the Okakarara Trade Fair Society, some 10.000 visitors are expected during the three days. “This shall be the start for many more trade fairs to be hold in Okakarara. With the event we want to attract business men and investors and bring the region forward to more economic deve-lopment.”, says Mr. Jackson.
