“Human nature” - Exhibition by Ismael Wallo Tjijenda

Since 2000 the visual artist Ismael Wallo Tjijenda started to exhibit his works not only in Namibia but also in Eritrea, Ethiopia, Uganda, Burundi, Zambia, South Africa, Germany, UK and Sweden. He is presently a lecturer for cardboard printmaking at the John Muafangejo Art Centre, Katutura. He likes to “explore the possibilities of what I can offer to what is available”.
The well-known Namibian artist Ismael Wallo Tjijenda was recently sponsored by the Goethe-Institut and Air Namibia to attend the “documenta 12”, the renowned modern art exhibition in Kassel, Germany, for artists from all over the world.
“As an artist I am working in a style influent by life in the time. This I want to us as tool of engagement for the society I live in. My concept has there for been a significant figure in challenging stereotype and market the demands. I consistently focus on Namibia’s social-political conditions and apartheid’s implication. Many of my works focus on violence against woman, child abuse, HIV/ Aids and violence with in the black township”, Ismail says.
Catherine Calothy, Director of the FNCC, will open the exhibition on Thursday, 11 October 2007, at 19:00 hrs at the Goethe-Centre/NaDS, Auditorium.

Mo-Wed: 9:00-12:00 hrs and 14:00-17:00 hrs
Fridays: 9:00-12:30 hrs
