The Municipality of Oshakati appears to have its books in very good order, according to the latest report of the Auditor General tabled in parliament last week. The town decreased its its debt collection period from 288 days in June 2001 to only 119 by June 2003. A surplus of N$ 10,5 million was recorded and N$ 16,5 million were invested in financial institutions. Oshakati even made a profit of N$ 926 071 on its water sales. Due to is joint venture with Premier Electric, a subsidiary of NamPower, electricity provision and sales are handled by that venture company. This new way of outsourcing electricity provision – with Oshakati being the first town in Namibia - seems to work very well. Oshakati municipality received N$ 1,18 million dollars form this joint venture in royalties, dividends and interest.
