On 5 November the Agricultural Scientific Society of Namibia will present a Seminar on Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs). The entrance fee to the event which takes place in the Auditorium of the Geological Survey (opposite safari Hotel), will be N$ 50. The programme starts at 8h00 and will end at about 13h00. Dr André de Kathen will talk on "Modern Biotechnology in Medicine, Agriculture and Chemistry. Anton Faul reflects on "GMOs and the Bottom Line - Cost benefit Analysis of introducing GMOs in Namibian Agriculture. And Dr Martha Kandawa-Schulz will deliver a speech on Administrative and Control Mechanisms - national and international. Thereafter a panel discussion will follow.

The generation, use, distribution, production and trading of genetically modified organisms is a matter of personal, national and international concern. Within biotechnology this development gained momentum only within the last 10 to 15 years, which means that even scientifically trained agriculturists in our country often do not have deeper insight into that field.

The seminar aims to counteract the lacjk of knowledge.
