Despite his application to stay on for another five years as Namibia’s auditor general, the Public Service Commission turned down Dr Fanuel Tjingaete. He held the post for two consecutive five-year terms since 1993. His appointed was extended for two months only and in his place Mr Junius Etuna Kandjeke, presently working as finance director at the ministry of defence will succeed Tjingaete. After several diplomas in finance, Kandjeke studied financial economy at the Karl Marx University in East Germany. Rising from assistant accountant at State House in 1991 to chief accountant by 1998, he changed to the post of deputy director, general services division in the ministry of lands, resettlement and rehabilitation. In his official curriculum vitae distributed in the National Assembly on Wednesday for approval of his new post by Parliament, Mr Kandjeke now calls himself a "financial economist/administrator." His CV however lacks indications of his auditing experience. Insiders allege, the new auditor general was handpicked for his new post.
