Saturday 29th of November 2003 Mr Barry Keyter who planned to set up a silicon mine near Omaruru has called for the impeachment of President Sam Nujoma. In a letter that was distributed to each Member of Parlia-ment on Wednesday, Mr Barry Keyter, based in Bryanston, South Africa informed them that President Nujoma allegedly contravened the Constitution. He accused the head of state of doing nothing to stop alleged fraud and illegal actions within the Ministry of Mines and Energy. After a complaint by Minister Pohamba, the letters were collected on instructions from the Speaker and removed from the Chamber after only a few minutes. Nobody knew who brought the envelopes to the Tintenpalast. A copy in possession of PLUS revealed that Mr Keyter alleged his mining licence was "illegally removed" by the Ministry of Mines and that corruption prevailed in its highest echelons. Bribes were apparently taken to quickly grant another firm, Ozondje Mining, owned by a certain Russell Schwartz that very licence. Mr Schwartz was from South Africa, of the Triennex Company, Mr Keyter alleged, and that cash bribes were apparently involved. Ozondje was partly owned by Sub-Sahara Investment Company in which at least 7 top brass of the Mining Ministry were shareholders, including Swapo officials and close relatives to President Nujoma, Mr Keyter stated in his letter to MP’s. Included in the envelope was a list of the names of these people and copies of 4 letters written to President Nujoma by Mr Keyter and his brother Anthony about the alleged illegal cancellation of their mining licence. "The (Namibian) police were provided with a 320 page dossier of crimes which contains absolute evidence of certain of the crimes and, at the very least, prima facie evidence of numerous other crimes", Barry Keyter, MD of Namibian Metals wrote on 14 November 2003 to President Nujoma. He even gave the number of the police docket: CR678-08/2003. "You were first informed of this corruption in June 2001 by German Ambassador Harald Nestroy and Dr Kappes of SMS Demag," Keyter wrote to Nujoma. "You have failed to take the action demanded of you by the Constitution …your failure and the protection you offer allows corrupt officials to continue with the serial rape of Nambia’s foreign investors with impunity – the thieving of their projects and investments", the strongly-worded letter said. |
