Friday 5th of December 2003 A colourful event will be staged at Rehoboth this weekend on 5 and 6 December, with the annual cultural festival taking place. Organised by the ministry of basic education, sport and culture since 1996, the event draws mainly traditional dance and music groups from all 13 regions for an annual gathering. Each year the festival takes place in a different region. The event offers a very god opportunity for photographers and tourists to capture colourful traditional wear of the participants. The photo shows a group of Okavango women performing a traditional dance in Windhoek recently during the opening of the Pan-African youth congress. The dresses of the women are covered with ornaments in the form of small cowry shells, the symbols of fertility. Photo: Brigitte Weidlich |
