On 18 January, David Hosea Meroro died in the Windhoek Central Hospital, aged 87. He is survived by his wife, 21 children and several grand and great grand children. Meroro, who was a member of the Constituent Assembly and ardent Swapo-member, was forced into exile in 1975. The former Swapo-Chairman (1962 - 1991) will be accorded a hero’s funeral and will be interred at the Heroes Acre on Saturday, 24 January 2004.

He is the third Swapo-member to be honoured in this way. The Book of Condolences which was opened at the Swapo Headquarters, was closed on Thursday.
