Siemens plays pivotal Role

The leading electrical and electronic engineering company Siemens has confirmed its commitment to the development of Namibia and officially introduced expansions on Tuesday during an Open Day.

MD Günter Langmaak gave a brief history of Siemens in Namibia, before painting an optimistic picture about the future („ The Kudu gas project holds good prospects for Siemnmens Namibia") The socalled „telecommuni-cations company" has been active in Namibia since 1899, when they installed the first telegraph line in Swakopmund.The modern involvement in the Skorpion Zinc Mine and the Kuiseb substation for Nampower as well as activities in medical solutions, PABX systems, electronic repairs and in communication technologies underscore the competence of all 36 excellent employees who stand ready to serve customers anywhere in Namibia.

„Although there is fierce competition in the provision of technology solutions throughout southern Africa, we are truly well positioned to participate".

Siemens Southern Africa Executive Director Koos Smit said the company was determined to expand across the region , „from Cape to Cairo". Already Siemens has four key drivers in terms of regions: Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Morocco and South Africa.

Recently premises were opened in Nairobi (Kenya) and before the end of 2004 another representation could open up in Angola. Already Siemens is present in 23 African countries and employs 400 000 people in 190 countries worldwide. The company will certainly observe how an initiative like NEPAD is functioning on the continnent.

Smit congratulated the local team of Siemens after Tuesday‘s business review. „They made a 100 % profit dividend," he said. Windhoek is one of the top performers.
