SACU meets US government in Walvis Bay

A four daylong round of trade negotiations is taking place in the port of Walvis Bay from Monday next week. Representatives of the US government will discuss a free trade area (FTA) with the five member states of the Southern African Customs Union (SACU). Overall 120 people will attend the talks, the first round was initiated in February 2002 in South Africa. This is in accordance with Section 116 of the Africa Growth and Opportunities Act (Agoa), which calls for negotiations of free trade agreements with interested sub-Saharan African countries.
