Almost 500 Million Nam-Dollar for StateHouse Sunday 29th of February 2004
The NBC announced on Wednesday night that the Swapo Central Committee would meet on 2 and April 2004 to elect " a successor" for President Sam Nujoma for the coming national elections. If he should really not stand for a fourth term, then it is doubtful if he will move into the gigantic new State House currently constructed by North Korean builders. Originally budgeted to cost only N$ 300 million, the project will cost taxpayers almost N$ 500 million plus the expropriation of at least 15 news private homes opposite the new building, which the government wants to acquire as "guest houses" for state visitors. So far the government never supplied any building plans to the municipality, nor did it buy the land or pay the N$ 23 million for basic services. Photo: Brigitte Weidlich |
