The Namibia Port Authorities (NamPort) has signed a contract with the Austrian company Liebherr for the purchase of a second mobile harbour crane with a lifting capacity of 100 tonnes. The crane will cost 25 million N$ and its components will be shipped to the port of Walvis Bay soon for installation. The harbour has become increasingly busy with imports and exports for the SADC region. "It has become imperative for us to provide world class customer service. The port can now attract ungeared ships, broadening the market scope of the harbour tremendously," said CEO Wessie Wessels during the signing ceremony, "it will increase our capacity, and will assist in taking the port of Walvis Bay to the next level of business development, reinforcing our quest to become the hub port of southern Africa."
