Have you ever attended some of the horse races at the Turf Club? Or at other venues across the country? Then you will realise the huge potential of this sport.

MTC realised this and even attended horse racing at Swakopmund during the December Holidays.

Now they have decided to increase their sponsorship from N$ 70 000 to N$ 100 000 for this financial year.

This sport has not yet reached its limits, as Amos Shiyuka, promotions Manager of MTC said on Tuesday. After new gates were produced to add professionalism and excitement to the races, „we are looking forward to our own MTC Horseracing Cup in August 2004 in Gobabis.

Henry Feris receuived the cheque for the organising committee.

For the last eight years, the Namibia Breweries have sponsored this sport (totalling an amount of some N$ 180 000). This sum includes N$ 150 000 prize money for the various races scheduled in 2004 as well as N$ 30 000 for the new starting stalls.

In addition to the above, MTC is sponsoring N$ 100 000 prize money in 2004 as well.

According to Henry Feris, President of the Horse Racing Association, the sport is headed for another exciting year.

Five events for 2004 are:

20 March Independence Cup in Kobos

3 April: Easter Cup in Rehoboth

10 July: July Handicap (Windhoek)

27 November: National Championship (Gobabis)

1 December: End-of-Year Cooastal Championship (Swakopmund)
