Air Namibia goes private

The most costly parastatal for the Namibian taxpayer, Air Namibia is to become a private company from 1 July 2004. According to reliable sources in aviation circles, Air Namibia will vacate its administrative and management offices in the TransNamib building and move to the Gutenberg Platz in Windhoek’s central business district. The large booking office at the Gustav Voigts Centre is to remain where it is.

RSA tourist brutally executed

An elderly South African tourist, 68-year-old Mr R. Ingram had his throat slit and was stabbed to death in his tent at a tourism campsite last weekend. This is the 6th murder of a person of European origin in the past 4 weeks in Namibia. Mr Ingram’s car was also stolen, but the thief, who had been found a guilty on a previous occasion, only got 100 m far. He then set the vehicle on fire. The campsite along the Orange River near Noordoewer is temporarily closed for two weeks.
