The Torra Consercancy estbalished by the rural community near the Grootberg in Damaraland won the Equator 2004 environmental award in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. According to the ministry of information, the award was already received on 19 February. Altogether 26 projects on either side of the Equator between the Tropics of Capricorn and Cancer were reviewed. Mr Bernard Roman of the Conservancy received the prize during the seventh Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity.
