abinet announced the start of the hunting season from 1 May to 31 August for Oryx, Kudu, Springbok and Warthog in game-proofed land. For registered conservancies or non-game-proofed land, the season for these species starts 1 June and last only to 31 July 2004. Only 3 head of large game (kudu or oryx) may be hunted per person on registered conservancies or 2 large game and 4 small game (springbok and warthog), or 1 large game and 8 small game or only 12 small game. For huntable birds, the season varies and only five to ten birds per person may be shot. Farm owners of registered conservancies must apply for hunting permits to the ministry of environment and tourism. These are only issued when the Ministry has determined that game numbers can support such hunting. Presently there are 29 registered conservancies.
